About Me

The name is “Adams”, Henry John Adams… LOL Just kidding. I’m Henry and this is my online place. I’ve resurrected like the Phoenix from the ashes after a very long time away from blogging.

Originally from Manchester and born some 40-something years ago, I moved to Buenos Aires 21 years ago with my wife Anita.

What can I say, she came to Manchester for her undergraduate degree and we met at one of the (many) shady venues that Manchester enjoys by the lot. I was 23, studying engineering and playing at a Manchester-infused punk rock band — kinda like The Undertones but a lot more crappy. It was love at first even though when we first met, I was shirtless, sweaty, drunk and rocking long hair that reached past my waist. I still rock my long hair and despite (my current) me being almost 25 years older, my wife insists that I still look like the first day we met. I guess that beauty is in the eye of the beer holder. Indeed.

I’m still into my music and I was heavily involved with the development of the punk rock and heavy metal/rock scene in Buenos Aires. There’s actually quite a few English lads here in Argentina, god knows why they heck so many of us ended up here despite “that” tiny little issue we had with the Falkland islands. I’ve got to say that Buenos Aires is the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen though, and I’ve done my fair amount of travelling.

I spent a good number of years working for a publication in the Bit rock scene and I also had my own band in Buenos Aires. I travelled a good bit between Europe, North America and South America, mostly to cover gigs in the Brit rock scene and to interview drunks — also known as frontmen. I’ve got a huge compilation of past interviews and articles of mine that never made it to any publication as the scene was quickly dying by the early 2000s and the publication I was working for was now expecting me to write for free. Like the gentleman that I am, a gav them the finger and told them to “f*ck off”. The next day I was looking for work in something that didn’t pay me peanuts. The rest was history and I currently enjoy a great life with my wife.

On the topic of blogging, many years ago when blogging still wasn’t trendy, I used to blog about topics related to computers and network systems as that’s what my job is primarily about (computers and having a whole network working, not talking about blogging!). So, as I stand today, I’ve decided to resurrect my writer’s soul and get back into blogging now that I have a lot more spare time to burn. My goal for this year is to give myself more time to enjoy my family and my hobbies, so I’ve scaled down on the many work hours I’ve been doing for the last decade.

I admit that many years ago when I used to blog about the sort of stuff I did (and still do) for a living, I had almost no one reading my blog. I mean… let’s be honest here for a second, it’s for the most part some good ol’ boring crap alright. It didn’t matter that I called my blog “A Nice Net” to summarise the joys of a system-admin’s duties or that I had played with the domain name to succinctly hint at my location and knowledge of the internet. People still found my posts boring.

Now that I know better, the plan is to resurrect the blog in a cool badass manner. Or at least as cool and badass as a beer-bellied 48-year-old system administrator can make it to be. Thus, this time, the main topic for my blog will be rock music and anything related to it.

Heavy metal, death metal and hard rock, expect my interviews from back in my rocking days. Also stuff that’s just relevant for lads my age. I may just as well have some stuff on long hair too, just because all my co-workers are balding and I still have the same long mane I had some 25 years ago. I’d say that my mane is the only good thing I have going as of today since my good looks of yesteryear are long gone. I’d like to think of it as a good Argentinian wine aging… Terribly. I do get asked if I’m in my late 30s and not in my late 40s, though. I’ll also be including stuff on the cinematic arts too. In other words, stuff about movies.

Ok, so that’s me here. If you follow my site you’ll get to know more of me. To chat with me, you can contact me via the contact form or by commenting on any of my posts.

Let’s have a good one, lads!
